I have been working a lot lately with Business Phones, also known as VoIP (Voice Over IP) or Unified Communications.  Small business owners often think this is not for them when, in fact, the new technology can improve their workflow tremendously.  So, what’s it all about?

During the pandemic many people began using their personal cell phones for business with the result that everyone they worked with now had their personal cell phone number, which for some people became an intrusion on their personal life.  One advantage of VoIP phones is the ability to have one phone number (not your cell phone number) that connects to your desk phone, computer app (desktops and laptops) and cell phone.

For organizations with a hybrid workforce, this feature is a big timesaver.  Staff can receive and make calls (from the business phone number) from any device: computer, laptop, desk phone or cell phone.

If VoIP is setup correctly, the person receiving the call will be identified by your business name and number.  The beauty is also that when you are done with work, you can logout of the system and your calls will go to voicemail or can be sent to someone else you work with who may be covering for you.

Ah! A real vacation with true time off!

And of course, the scheduling of time off, forwarding of calls, etc. can all be done by each employee, cutting down on the number of IT Help Desk calls needed to manipulate your phone system.
