Overcoming My Love / Hate Relationship
Technology has the ability to free our mind from pesky details, free our attention to explore the new and novel, and free our time from the mundane and tedious. That is – when it works. When it doesn’t work…well, suffice it to say that even though I work with technology for a living, I’ve wanted to throw my smart phone out the window from time to time.
This past year I discovered Robert and have been admiring him from afar. Recently I have been debating the wisdom of inviting him into my home. I admit that I have fantasized about living with him for quite a while and last month I finally I took the big step!
I bought Robert, the robotic vacuum cleaner, who is NOT a cheap date, from a retailer who has exceptionally good return policies in case we ended up having to separate. But as it turns out, Robert has been an exceptional companion! He cleans very well, saves me many hours of time and doesn’t talk back when I ask him to” just go over that area over there one more time.”
Our agreement, since I am a pet owner, is that he work several times a week. Robert never gets tired, never has a TV show he’d rather watch, and best of all, he understands work-life balance. When he gets tired he recharges and gets right back to work!
