A backup of your computer (data/files and operating system) is much more than an administrative task. Think of a backup as saving productivity – the hours of work you and your employees just put in today. How would you feel if you had to do all of that work over again? For a business or nonprofit it is extremely important to backup data at least once a day and backup your operating system at least once a week, testing both after the backup to prevent catastrophic loss of time and information.

Often small organizations overlook backing up desktop and laptop computers.  I saw on the news how a man who had his entire Real Estate business on his laptop was digging through the NYC garbage dumps because his laptop was accidentally thrown away.  Don’t be “that guy”! Get into the habit – make backing up your systems as automatic as brushing your teeth.

Ideally you will have a backup on premises and one in the cloud in case of fire or flood to your facility. Some possible cloud options are Carbonite or Acronis. Check out PC Magazine’s 2022 review to see which one might be good for you.
