Due to the emergence of Wi-Fi and the proliferation of new apps, the “Smart Home/Office” phenomenon has grown exponentially. Some people just like the gadgets and have automated all sorts of things.  On the more practical side, some of these devices can save you money and others can alert when you are out about things going on in your home or office such as unwanted visitors or fires.  Here are some of the applications:

  • Data Closets – Protect your data closet from changing temperatures and water by using some of the devices listed. These data closets connect to your ISP and network.
  • Thermostats – Programmable thermostats have been around a long time. But the new Wi-Fi ones connected to the Internet are even more useful.  Programming them to turn off heat or air conditioning when no one is present saves a lot of energy.  When your plans change you can change your temperature settings through the Internet.
  • Water Sensors – How many of us have experienced water leaking somewhere when we weren’t home? There are water sensors that can alert you via text or email if there is something leaking.  Very useful!
  • Smoke & CO2 Detectors – These detectors are connected to the Internet and if there is smoke or a fire, can call the Fire Department to your home or office as well as alert you that there is a problem.
  • Cameras – So you can check on the little ones, big ones and 4 legged ones.
  • Alexa & Google – These devices use voice commands and integrate with all other devices so you can turn on/off your lights, listen to music and pick your TV channels by simply speaking a request.

The above are just a few of the things that the “Smart” devices will do. Is there something you wish you could automate? Ask us about making your office a “Smart Office!”
